- 3 or 4 California pears
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 cups stale bread cubes
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tspn salt
- 1/4 tspn allspice
- 1/4 tspn cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
Pare, halve, and core pears, and dice to measure 3 cups. Mix with lemon juice.
Mix bread cubes, butter, sugar, salt, and spices. Place 1/2 of the combination in buttered 1-1/2 quart casserole. Top with pears, raisins, then remaining bread mixture.
Bake covered at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Uncover, and bake 20 minutes longer. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Makes 4 servings.
