Classic Butterscotch Candies (1904)

"Five tablespoons molasses, four tablespoons sugar, four tablespoons water,Two tablespoons butter.

"Let boil until when dropping a little in cold water, it will be brittle. Put in a pinch of baking soda before taking off stove. 

"Pour into buttered tins, and when cool enough, mark in squares."
