Twelve Yolk Gold Cake (1959)

  • 1-1/4 cups cake flour
  • 3 tspns baking powder
  • 1 tspn salt
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1-1/8 cups sugar
  • 1 tspn vanilla
Have ingredients at room temperature. Sift flour, measure, add baking powder, salt, and sift together three times.

Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored using high speed of mixer. Add water and beat until light. Turn to low speed, and beat in sugar gradually. Add vanilla. Fold in flour mixture using a wire whisk.

Bake in an ungreased tube pan at 325 degrees about 60 to 70 minutes. Invert on wire rack to cool.  Can also be baked in two layers. May be frosted as desired, or served with berries and whipped cream.
