- 6 cups thinly sliced tart apples
- 1 cup grated cheddar or American cheese
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 2/3 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1 tbspn lemon juice
- 1/2 tspn cinnamon
- 1/2 tspn nutmet
- 1/4 tspn salt
Arrange sliced apples in a buttered baking dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour lemon juice and corn syrup over apples, and sprinkle with brown sugar.
Combine granulated sugar, flour, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is like coarse corn meal. Stir in grated cheese lightly, then top apples with this mixture.
Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until apples are tender. Serve warm, with or without cream Serves 6.
